Mary Grace Henry
Home: Harrison, New York
Organization: Reverse the Course
Objective: Funding of educational expenses for girls living in extreme poverty
Summary: At the age of 12, Mary Grace Henry began sewing reversible headbands and donating 100% of the proceeds to the school expenses for girls in Kenya, Uganda, Paraguay and Haiti. To date she has created thousands of headbands which have provided textbooks, uniforms, food, and boarding school fees for over 79 girls. Noting the often grim reality of child marriage and early childbearing she explains that her organization Reverse the Course is so named because “Educating a girl can reverse the course of her life.” Mary was recently honored with a World of Children Award for her work. She will use the the $35,000 grant she received to further her efforts in Africa.
