WHO WE ARE
Compassionate Kids is a service-learning organization whose members care about people, animals, and the environment. Our organization is made up of families with kids in public schools, charter schools, private schools, home schools, and “unschooling” households around the greater Atlanta area. While we come from many different faiths and lifestyles … from veganism to Buddhism, Judaism …to nontheism, we are a SECULAR organization which unites around the common goals of raising our children lovingly and respectfully, and teaching compassion in action for all living things and our planet.
We believe that the goal of education as humans should be to both understand the state of our world AND to promote positive change to make it a better place.
We strive to funnel our time and resources into projects that benefit people, animals, and/or the environment in our own communities and around the world.
We hope to provide “hands-on” opportunities for children to experience the excitement and satisfaction of participating in activities where they are helping others. We aim to inspire kids to come up with their own ideas for service projects and to offer encouragement and assistance so that they can explore and manifest these ideas in some concrete way. We hope to instill in children the attitude that no one is ever too small to think of a big idea and put it into action.
Education, action, and inspiration are at the heart of our organization.
What We Do
Our group gathers monthly to learn about social and environmental issues that affect us locally and/or globally, and to look at examples of humanitarian responses to these issues. We choose projects we feel passionate about, and set up times for volunteering each month.
